The Devil Wears Prada shows Starland Ballroom they’re eternal
11/3/24 The Devil Wears Prada returned to Sayreville, NJ, for the TDWP Is Eternal tour, along with support from Greyhaven, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Like Moths Flames, and Silent Planet. Let’s talk about what went down!
Crazed metalcore fans packed into Sayreville, NJ’s Starland Ballroom early for a night of moshing and crowd surfing. First up was Greyhaven, a Louisville, KY post-hardcore band. The crowd was treated to vicious breakdowns, screeching riffs, and plenty of growls. Fans of bands like Dying Wish, The Callous Daoboys, and Teeth will be sure to dig this band.
Next was San Diego’s SeeYouSpaceCowboy, who cranked the rowdy crowd up to eleven and took absolutely no prisoners. Their blend of mathcore and punk brings a fresh take on familiar early 2000s scene/emo music (without the negative attributes). Fans of Knocked Loose, L.S. Dunes, Saosin, and maybe even Spiritbox (some of the more technical, bass-and-guitar-driven songs) will find something to love here.
Following them was the legendary metalcore quartet from Columbus, Ohio, Like Moths To Flames. I might be biased as a New Jersey guy, but I’m so glad Jersey showed these guys the love and respect they deserve after a rather dull crowd response in PA a few nights prior. All I can say is that these guys rip. Check them out if you like bands like Fit For a King, Currents, and more!
Up next was Silent Planet from California. All I can say after seeing them twice in the course of four days is that it’s an experience like no other. Their raw power and emotion elevate their performances beyond anything you might typically see. The scene they set, the atmospheric soundscape—chef’s kiss. Fans of I See Stars, Born Of Osiris, Polaris, and even Gore will enjoy Silent Planet for sure!
Has the crowd been worn out yet? Absolutely not. It’s time for The Devil Wears Prada, who should need no introduction, considering they’ve been a staple in metalcore since 2005. One might even consider them among the most influential metalcore bands out there. They didn’t come here in support of an album or for any special reason other than to prove TDWP is Eternal. Their 16-song set list (shown below) was heavy on tracks from Color Decay but also featured selections from their nearly 20-year career. TDWP had the crowd in the palm of their hands. Jeremy commanded the sea of crowd-surfers like a metalcore maestro while Mike melted faces up close and personal with his screams. Even during the acoustic opening of “Chemicals,” there wasn’t a single person disengaged. A must-see if you haven’t yet. TDWP is Eternal!
