New News With Like Moths To A Flame

All my fellow hard rock/metalcore fans, LISTEN UP! Like Moths To Flames band out of Columbus, Ohio, formed in 2010, has some new art for us! The band consists of vocalist Chris Roetter, drummer, Roman Garcia, and guitarists Zach Pishney and Cody Cavanaugh.

As you may know, back in May of 2024, they released an album called "The Cycles of Trying To Cope" with ten phenomenal tracks. They believed this wasn't enough music for our fans this year, so they decided to release a single on October 3rd, 2024!!! This new single is called "Soul Exchange." According to the band's official Instagram page, they released a post stating, "Some of you might've heard the song as it is the hidden track on the record... For the rest of you, enjoy!" The artwork alone for this song is breathtaking. It shows people floating around in the sky, with birds and a dope color contrast. Probably one of the coolest pieces of song artwork I've seen yet!

The majority of us find peace in metal music, as it portrays a lot of emotion for various things. The song lyrics to "Soul Exchange" are very heavy on the heart. An excerpt from the song that touches me states, "Does the pain we feel measure the hurt we've caused? Is that why I'm so lost? I've said my peace, I was afraid to go alone. Now I'm ready to finally leave, The only place I've known at all. It wasn't meant for me." To me, this song reminds me of leaving a hard relationship whether that be with a partner, parent, or friend.

In an interview with Chris Roetter, vocalist of Like Moths to Flames, says, " Soul Exchange is a weird one, It kind of feels like the one that got away. When we were putting together the record, it was hard to find a place for it. The song is an encapsulation of my experience and relationship with my career. The struggles of writing and feeling like it hits no one. The feeling of falling on deaf ears, being unheard."

The song can be interpreted in any way it hits for you, but to the band, it feels like a rocky road in creating new music and feelings that no one can genuinely relate to. I relate to a lot of their music. It expresses the value of emotions and they have a very strong way of expressing those emotions and feelings in the perfect ways.

Continuing with the subject, in another interview about a song from their recent album, "Kintsugi", Roetter states: "The record encapsulates the varying emotions we go through when trying to grow through life, Over the last few years, I've really tried to harness my emotions as a catalyst to get through whatever I was facing at the time. I think we all have our own unique ways to cope — these are mine. Just being able to write about this stuff and put it out into the world makes it feel like I'm not so alone." He goes on by saying, "A big focal point for Moths has always been writing about things I'm actively going through - I hope that people are able to find some solace in knowing someone else out there is dealing with these things too."

I adore how they generate what they are going through into music, in hopes that it finds the right people in a way of coping. This is what creating the art of music is all about, truly.
