Ice Nine Kills Goes 9Bit.
We all know Ice Nine Kills for their horror-themed songs. But what about video games? The band hasn’t announced any video game-inspired songs (yet), but their latest release will make you feel like you were thrown into one.
Ice Nine Kills has released 9-bit versions of The Silver Scream and The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood. These albums have been on repeat for me, and I’m sure it will continue that way. I fell for these the second I heard them. I started with The American Nightmare off of The Silver Scream. The rest of the album, as well as the second, followed soon after. It truly feels like you were thrown into a horror game.
I won’t bore you with the details of every song, but I will talk about a few of my favorites from each album!
The Silver Scream:
Thank God It’s Friday: This one is a favorite for obvious reasons. It’s like being thrown into a horror game. I would definitely throw this song in the background while playing Friday The 13th on NES.
Merry Axe-Mas: This one was another obvious choice. I’m sure many other INK fans have played the Merry Axe-Mas video game the band “releases” every year. This version will throw you right back into that holiday feeling.
It Is The End: The beginning is pure nightmare fuel, in the best way possible. It soon turns into the soundtrack of a crazy boss battle. I imagine walking into Pennywise’s lair, ready to fight him with the rest of The Losers Club.

The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood
Hip To Be Scared: This version has a more elegant feel to it. I picture a ballroom setting, like a cut scene maybe. I can also see this version being used for the end credits of a game.
Farewell II Flesh: I feel like I’m walking through Bowser’s castle when I listen to this. Specifically, the haunted rooms with all the ghosts floating around. This version is so eerie, I love it.
Assault & Batteries: Similar to the original version, the song starts off hopeful. It has a light, happy tone. The song begins to speed up as it grows more intense. This version also gives boss battle vibes. I could also imagine it in an anime.
