VOLBEAT’S NEW “GOD OF ANGELS TRUST” ALBUM AND “BY A MONSTER’S HAND” VIDEO
Danish powerhouse Volbeat recently announced their ninth studio album, God Of Angels Trust, will be available worldwide on June 6, 2025 via their longtime label Republic/Universal.
Volbeat, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, Jon Larsen on drums, and Kaspar Boye Larsen on bass, have maintained their status of rock royalty by continually reimagining their sound over the years. The band has amassed ten #1 songs on the Billboard Mainstream Rock airplay chart, which is the most ever for a band outside of North America. They’ve been able to achieve this by pushing the boundaries of their unique sound and allowing themselves to play around with their creativity and not sticking to one defined structure or process.
The band teased what you can anticipate from the album by releasing their first single and music video for “By a Monster’s Hand.” The video features a back-and-forth approach between the band performance and an unsettling story of a “monster.” The song captures the band’s perfected chugging and progressive sound while also capturing the raw and natural uniqueness of the song’s production.

While creating the God Of Angels Trust album, the band took a new approach and skipped following traditional writing and creative processes.
"In the past, I've taken a long time to write and obsessed over so many elements of the songs before finishing them," states Poulsen. "This time, I wanted to make a Volbeat record without thinking too much about it. Instead of following any kind of structure I said, 'Okay, there are no rules. I can do anything I want. I can start with a chorus or do songs that are just a bunch of verses stacked on top of each other. Anything goes.' That was freeing for me and made it exciting to write this album."
After taking a year-long break from touring to give vocalist Michael Poulsen recovery time from throat surgery and to tour with his death metal band, Asinhell, he began the writing process for the God Of Angels Trust album in the summer of 2024. Michael, Jon, and Kaspar worked on songs for the album for only three weeks, working on a new song at each rehearsal. Within three weeks of the process, the band had already arranged half to the Gods Of Angels Trust album. The rapid development of the songs enhanced Poulsen’s drive to throw caution into the wind and to promote natural and raw musical writing.
The band moved the process into the studio in the fall of 2024. After recruiting their longtime producer Jacob Hansen, the band worked quickly to pull everything together. They recorded live in the studio and played as few takes as possible for each song to inspire a sense of urgency within the songs.
Volbeat tapped Flemming C. Lund for the lead guitar portions, who currently tours with the band and is a member of Asinhell. Within 13 days of working with Hansen, the band was finished. In total, it took Volbeat about five weeks to write and record the entire album.
"In some ways, it feels like we've come full circle,” Poulsen explains. "If you start drawing a circle over an extended period of time, eventually you've going to get back where you started, and that's how I feel now. I've dealt with medical operations, lineup changes, and all these things, and now it feels like a rebirth. It doesn't feel like we're doing our ninth studio album, it feels like we're on our first album again and there's something really refreshing about that."
