DEAD EYES Share New Song + Exclusive Interview
The Baltimore-based rock band, DEAD EYES, released their new single, “Better Off”, on October 11. You can listen to the new song here. The song tells the story of the drive to persevere through life’s challenges. The band had this to say about the single:
“Better Off is about how you can’t stop life from happening to you, but you can control how you respond to it. Taking on life’s challenges and rolling with the punches, and knowing that at the end of the day, it’s up to you to make the best of it.”
If you’ve read my reviews before, you know I love a song with a blend of screams and clean vocals. This song has exactly that. The transition from the heavy breakdown to clean vocals is insane! With powerful riffs and a mind-blowing breakdown, this song is sure to be stuck on repeat.
In addition to the song’s release, the band also shared a new music video. In this powerful video, we see a man sitting in the middle of a room. As the video progresses, the building begins to crack around him. It shows what it can feel like to have to deal with struggles on your own.
I had the opportunity to interview the band. Check out the questions below, and make sure to keep an eye out for the band in the future!
I wanted to start off by saying thank you for this interview opportunity. I am very excited to pick everyone’s brains a little bit.
Thanks for having us!
Who is Dead Eyes? How would you describe your sound to new fans like myself?
I think our favorite version of the band is the one that's playing high-energy rock songs. Heavy riffs and big choruses. Sometimes that comes out as a rock song, sometimes metal.
You guys recently released a new song, ‘Better Off’, which is amazing by the way. Can you take me through the writing process? What inspired you guys to write it?
Zach wrote a demo that we all really loved. So we took it down to our producer, Kile Odell and with the help of Dustie Waring(BTBAM) we put our heads together to give it the energy and excitement that we wanted. The song is about coming to grips with how much control we actually have over the things that happen to us. Sometimes the cards just don't fall your way because ultimately it's not up to you. All you can control is how you respond. If you have to wake up and deal with all the things life throws at you anyway, you might as well have a good time.
I want to congratulate you on your record deal with InVouge. What was going through your head when you were brought into the team?
We knew immediately it was the perfect fit for us and exactly the kind of home we envisioned for our band. We have a lot of friends on the label which made us feel really comfortable going into it and everyone on the team over there is so smart and SO on the ball. It was an obvious choice for us and we couldn't be happier that it all worked out the way it did. We are right where we belong.
I read that you shared the stage with I Prevail, Fit For A King, and Attack Attack. What was it like to perform with these big bands?
It was wild! We have all been huge fans of those bands for a really long time. We have a lot of respect for them both collectively and as individuals. We tried to learn as much from them as we could, from songwriting and performance all the way down to the business aspect of things. And as always, we had an absolute blast on stage.
I have a couple of fun little questions before we end here. Who is your dream band to share the stage with?
Nickelback. No question. No hesitation. Chad, seriously… Call us.
What would be your dream venue to perform at? And why?
I think we’d have to say Inkarceration. Big fans of Shawshank.
You heard the man, share this article so we can get Chad Krogers’ attention! Then after you share it, make sure to check out DEAD EYES across social media!
