Sayreville Calls the Devil with Mushroomhead at Starland Ballroom, NJ

Legendary nu-metal band Mushroomhead played to an almost sold-out Wednesday night crowd at Starland Ballroom as part of their U.S. tour in support of their latest album, Call The Devil. The tour featured support from Mind Incision, There Is No Us, and Texas metalcore legends Upon A Burning Body.

Up first was Denver’s Mind Incision. Despite only forming in 2022, the band is no strangers to the metalcore scene. Embarking on their first tour in 2024. Their short but hard-hitting five-song set included a cover of Korn’s Blind. Early in the set, frontman Jason Neil made a heartfelt gesture by hopping over the barrier to greet a young fan and dedicating a song to her.

Next was There Is No Us, an industrial punk band from Phoenix fronted by award-winning rock royalty photographer Jim Louvau (trust us, you’ve seen his work!). The band includes members who have previously played with acts like Marilyn Manson, and the Red, and Blue Man Group, making for a unique combination. Their set featured a cover of Rage Against The Machine’s Killing in the Name and supported their latest album, There Is No Us.

Following them were Texas metalcore heroes and New Jersey favorites Upon A Burning Body. Lead singer Danny Leal opened the set by waving the Lone Star State’s flag, with the crowd chanting, “The stars at night are big and bright, followed by a trio of claps. Deep in the heart of Texas” The band’s ten-song set lit the crowd on fire, delivering a high-energy performance that kept the momentum going.

Finally, Mushroomhead took the stage in a cloud of smoke and plenty of water ( My camera bag thanks them) Their 16-song setlist was packed with hits from their 2020 album A Wonderful Life, as well as songs from their nearly 30-year career (see the full setlist below). Fans were treated to two new songs from the Call The Devil album alongside classics like Qwerty, Sun Doesn’t Rise, Solitaire/Unraveling, and 43. Dedicated fans were out in full force, singing along to every word, especially when several members of the band jumped into the crowd, further electrifying the atmosphere.
